About Swax Lax Lacrosse and our owner, Shaun Rosenow.

Swax Lax Lacrosse (Swax) is known for offering the best lacrosse camps and clinics in New Jersey for beginner and intermediate players. At Swax Lax Lacrosse, children are encouraged to feel at ease with a lacrosse stick in their hands and connected to coaches who genuinely care about their development as players and as people. Our comfortable learning environment and positive coaching is perfect for new players who are eager to learn lacrosse and be part of a team.

Swax’s lacrosse programs are open to girls in K-5th grades and boys in K-3rd grades from any school or town that’s accessible to our New Jersey locations. Swax encourages you to sign your child up for one of our programs regardless of your family’s ability to pay.

As an All American collegiate lacrosse player, the owner, Shaun Rosenow, has a successful background in sports. You'll see her running the streets of Summit, competing on the paddle court, and volunteering at YMCA basketball. Sports are a way of life for her family, because of the lessons it teaches, and the relationships formed. It is a privilege to introduce kids to this great sport, and see it begin at Swax.

Meet Our Camp Directors

  • Lauren Nelson, Director

Coach Lauren is dedicated to developing kids self-esteem both on and off the field.  Lauren was as a three sport athlete at Manasquan High School and a standout All-Conference lacrosse player during her collegiate career at Merrimack College. Her passion for the sport led her to serve as an assistant coach at Wagner College, where she shared her lacrosse IQ with aspiring athletes, while working toward her Masters Degree in Education.

An accomplished educator at Newark Academy, she inspired students with her commitment to special education. Balancing her professional life, she is also a mother of three young boys residing in Rumson, where she instills the same love for lacrosse and active living in her children.

  • Cristina Maurizi, Girls Director

A Summit native, Cristina graduated Summit High School where she was a varsity soccer and lacrosse player.  She continued her academic and athletic pursuits at George Mason University where she competed and captained her college team.

After graduation, she began her coaching career, which took her from Montclair State, Stockton Unvierstiy, and on to Franklin and Marshall, where her team made a final four run.  As current Associate Head Coach at Montclair State, we are grateful she is back in her hometown state, where can share her love with the next generation of players.

  • Mark Leddy, Boys Director

Coach Mark brings a lifetime of leadership and athletic experience to the field. After a 47-year career at General Motors, he retired in 2022, but his passion for staying active, never slowed. A former captain of both the soccer and golf teams at Mount Saint Mary’s University, Mark went on to compete in international club soccer, including a finalist appearance in the 1995 U.S. National Soccer Hall of Fame Championship game.

His love for lacrosse grew as all 4 of his children took up the game, leading to countless miles of travel to support their collegiate careers. Dedicated to his community, Coach Mark has coached soccer and volleyball for more than four decades, recently completing his 10th year as Beach Volleyball Camp Director in Sea Girt, NJ.

This is how it started.

Swax Lax Lacrosse was founded originally as Sum It Up for Girls in 2008 by Laura Gump, with the mission of encouraging K–8th grade girls to become more self-confident through the sport of lacrosse. As the program grew, it expanded to boys, and has since become a right of passage for young athletes.

In 2024, after two years as Director, Shaun Rosenow took over Swax Lax Lacrosse as owner. With the same principles in place, she grew the program to meet the popularity, and expanded to Rumson NJ.

The car magnets, tie-dye t-shirts, and picture frames serve as Swax memorabilia, providing enjoyment for the kids and a sense of nostalgia for the parents. These items act as timeless reminders, marking the moment of their kids' first introduction to lacrosse.
