What Happens at Lacrosse Camp and How Does it Work?

Parents often ask if Swax Lax Lacrosse camps NJ for girls and boys are exactly the same at every location. The answer is: Yes and No.

Format and Schedule

Every Swax Lax Lacrosse camp offers the same basic schedule, however, the girls camp agenda and boys camp agenda vary slightly each week to avoid repetition. We always cover the same basic lacrosse skills—catching, throwing, cradling, shooting, dodging, defensive footwork, and positioning—but we shake things up by introducing different drills and games. After so many years of coaching lacrosse, we have many options for covering the concepts in fun and creative ways. Since players are generally divided up by age and, if appropriate, by ability, the coaches try to introduce more advanced skills and concepts if they think their group is up for the challenge.

Staff

The staff is generally the same at each location except when conflicts arise with individual coaches who have study abroad trips, internship opportunities, or family vacations. One of the best things about Swax Lax Lacrosse is that our coaches come back year after year. Last summer, more than 40 of our coaches worked with us at least once, if not many times, before. We expect the number of returning coaches to be even higher in 2016.

Traditions and Team Challenges

The one constant at Swax Lax Lacrosse camps is the wonderful traditions and rituals!

Girls’ traditions

The girls’ camps always feature: Players of the Day, the Sum It Up Cheer, Sprinkler Time, Popsicle Time, Color Team Challenges (e.g., Minefield; Water Balloon Toss, Cheer Competition, Soap Box Derby), Crafts, Yoga and Meditation, Ice Breakers (e.g., Huggy Bear, Horse and Jockey, Girls from Mars), and of course, tie-dying Swax Lax Lacrosse shirts.

Boys’ traditions

The boys' camps have their own beloved rituals, many of which celebrate the Native American roots of lacrosse. They include: Clan Competitions, Native American-themed Crafts, Players of the Day, Face Painting, Tie-dying Swax Lax Lacrosse shirts, Sponge Ball Fight, Sprinkler Time, Popsicle Time, Story Time, and Handshake With the Coaches.

Sounds awesome, right?
